Hermann Heinrich MERTEN, born 2 May 1875, Tolkemit, Prussia (now part of Poland). He died in 1916.
Herman married Maria BEOTH. She was born 19 Sep 1873, Tolkemit. Her death is not known. She disappeared in 1945 when the Russians (Soviet Union) took over their home.
Tolkemit is a town in northern Poland, on the Vistula Lagoon, about 12.4 miles northeast of Elblag. It is located in Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, Elblag County. The Polish name is Tolkmicko.
The site was first settled by Old Prussian tribes.
In 1296, the city law (Stadrecht) followed the incorporation of the territory into Prussia and was based on the German Kulm law (Kulmer Recht) by order of Ludwig von Schippe, the commander of the Teutonic Knights.
On 26 Jan 1945, during World War 2, the town was occupied and destroyed by the Red Army. About half of the inhabitants had fled from the Soviets by the end of World War 2, while the remaining German population was forcibly expelled over the following years.

Hermann MERTEN, born 21 Jun 1904, Tolkemit, Prussia, son of Herman Heinrich and Maria (BEOTH) MERTEN. Hermann died 11 Apr 1945, killed in World War 2.
Hermann married Johanna MOTEN. She was born 21 May 1904, Tolkemit.
Johanna fled to Stade, Germany with her children, fleeing the Soviet army when it invaded Tolkemit. Stade is a beautiful city in northern Germany. She is a very kind lady.

Hermann MERTEN, born 10 Mar 1938, Tolkemit, Prussia, son of Hermann and Johanna (MOTEN) MERTEN.
Hermann married Monika ELSNER in 1966 and they live in Essen, Germany. Monika was born in 1945, the daughter of a wonderful lady named Gerdal ELSNER, who also lived in Essen.
Essen is a large industrial city in northern Germany on the River Rohr. They are wonderful people and have visited the Philip FRAKES family in America and were hosts to Stephen FRAKES in Germany. We are very proud to call them cousins.
